Bi-Fold Gates

Speed Gates Bi-fold gates, also referred to as Speed gates, quick fold gates and fast gates are available to suit aperture widths of up to 7.0m. They operate at a speed of 1m per second, and are fully compatible with any access control system.

They are almost silent in operation and take the minimum amount of space for gate leaf travel making them perfect for entrances to car parks, apartment blocks and congested city centre locations. The high speed of operation when compared to traditional automated gates has made bi-fold gates popular where an entrance in a secure perimeter has to be open for the minimum possible time, such as prisons and police compounds.

The gate is of fully welded steel construction with steel hollow section infill bars at 120mm (max) centres. Alternate infills are available such as solid sheet steel, laminated glass or timber effect slats.

The drive units are sited within the gate posts for maximum weather protection. This also results in improved aesthetics. The gate leaves are operated by articulated arms which may be disengaged in the event of a power failure to allow manual gate operation. A key switch for open and close operation and an emergency stop button are also mounted on the hanging post. A fully programmable control panel is equipped with inverters to provide soft start and stop functions, together with a speed control.

These gates are equipped as standard with a safety system which meets or exceeds all current safety legislation . This comprises rubber buffers on the gate leaf leading edges, and on the horizontal bottom gate beams.

Electronic detectors ensure that accidental contact will immediately stop and reverse the gate. Rotating warning lights and sounders can also be added to the top of the drive posts to indicate when the gates are in motion. Twin photo-cell beams are also provided for low/high vehicle protection.
